  • A very close friend of mine told me recently that she was raped about a year ago. I'm not sure what I should do. Personally, I want to ask her who it was so I can break his fucking jaw, but I don't think it would be appropriate to ask her about the rape. What should I do? I kinda just wanna make her happy, but it kills me that I wasn't able to help her. She also seems to be avoiding my calls/texts, but I assume she told me about the incident so I could comfort her? I don't know what to do.

just be there for her. if she’s avoiding you, just let her know you’ll give her space and you’re still there for her. sometimes when people tell you their darkest secrets, they become ashamed in themselves and therefore want to disassociate with the whole ordeal even if it includes avoiding the friends. sometimes they just want to hide. don’t make them confront things they are not ready for. sometimes being a good friend just means letting them know nothing has changed between you guys because sometimes that’s what they’re afraid of.

40,000 people are now in front of the residence of the prime-minister in Japan. Protests are mainly focused on the government’s plans for military reforms, which would turn Japan back to fascism, back to being  a war mongering country. War should be against those in the palaces, they say. This signals a shift in the security policy, since it’s based on an interpretation of the constitution by the government as the cabinet alone having the right to adopt any change in the security policy.

People also protest against nukes, and capitalists’ exploitation of workers, “who are forced to overwork until they commit suicide”.  They plan to protest tomorrow too.

    Alright

One heart is not connected to another through harmony alone. They are, instead, linked deeply through their wounds. Pain linked to pain, fragility to fragility. There is no silence without a cry of grief, no forgiveness without bloodshed, no acceptance without a passage through acute loss. That is what lies at the root of true harmony.

This incredible photo marks the end of Matador Torero Alvaro Munera’s career. He collapsed in remorse mid-fight when he realized he was having to prompt this otherwise gentle beast to fight. He went on to become an avid opponent of bullfights. Even grievously wounded by picadors, he did not attack this man.

Torrero Munera is quoted as saying of this moment: “And suddenly, I looked at the bull. He had this innocence that all animals have in their eyes, and he looked at me with this pleading. It was like a cry for justice, deep down inside of me. I describe it as being like a prayer - because if one confesses, it is hoped, that one is forgiven. I felt like the worst shit on earth.”
